# Sources and cards

## What is a Source?

A source is a document that appears in the **Library.** Sources are used in two ways:

1. They can be assigned to your SlateCX agent so that that agent is trained on the source material and can answer questions related to it.
2. They can be used to create **Cards.** Cards are graphical and textual containers that can be used to convey a specific message by the agent. For example you might have a card that represents a chart or graph. Or you may have a card that contains a relevant video or demonstration.

A source is tenant wide. You can use the same source in multiple SlateCX agents.

### Source Types

1. File - Best for sales decks, PDFs, images, and video already prepared for SlateCX
2. Website - An existing website that can be directly crawled by SlateCX
3. Import from Hubspot - A file that exists in your HubSpot file repository.
4. Live Web Page - Allows you embed an actual live page inside your Slate. Useful for online calculators and portals.
5. YouTube Video - A video uploaded to YouTube
6. HubSpot form - An existing form in your HubSpot account.
7. Hubspot meeting - An existing meeting booking widget in your HubSpot account.
8. Walnut Demo - A product walkthrough video hosted on Walnut.
9. Storylane Demo - A product walkthrough video hosted on Storylane.

### Versions

You can update existing sources and it will create a new version for you.

### Public URL policy

Each source can have a Public URL. This is mostly important when you are using the SlateCX Embed Mode as sometimes you may not want cards to popup in the embed itself. If you specify a URL you can have the embed widget navigate to the public URL and continue with the chat.

| Mode | Resolution |
| --------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `custom` | The HTTPS-only override on the source |
| `default` | One canonical provider-inferred URL: public HubSpot file hosting URL, then crawler-captured HTML origin URL, then live web page URL |
| `none` | No public URL; the source is excluded from citations |

## Cards

A card is a reusable presentation backed by a source. They are used by the SlateCX agent to help illustrate a particular point or to present interactive elements like forms and meeting booking widgets.

Cards are a key part of the SlateCX interface, particularly when a desktop entry point is used. The prospect will build up a collection of cards during the conversation.

If the prospect shares their Slate workspace, other people will be able to see the cards they collected.

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/sx0O55tJm5k>" %}

### Types

There are many different card types in SlateCX:

`PDF` - a PDF document, presented in its entirety.

`IMAGE` - an Image

`VIDEO` - a YouTube Video

`HTML` - A copy of web page segment

`PLAINTEXT` - Just text, typically created if the prospect bookmarks a portion of the agent conversation.

`FORM` - A HubSpot Form or Meeting Booking widget

`URL` - An external web page that you want to embed inside a Slate.

### Push guidance

The SlateCX agent needs to know when you want to present a particular card. This is known as 'push guidance'. When editing a card you can specify in natural language when the card should be shown.

For example '*Push this card when the prospect is interested in pricing*'.
