# First campaign

Build a complete campaign with knowledge, cards, agent behavior, and a published entry point. This tutorial goes deeper than the [Quickstart](/getting-started/quickstart.md) and touches every section of the campaign editor.

## What you will build

A campaign that answers questions from your own content, pushes the right card at the right moment, and records when a prospect reaches a goal.

## 1. Prepare the Library

Sources are tenant-wide, not campaign-owned, so build the Library first.

Open **Library.**

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2F1mPPT8COGYehYXsioSXZ%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=ba2cc747-f319-45a3-850e-c1357d8717f7" alt="" width="240"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Add a source. Supported providers include file upload, website crawl, single URL import, YouTube, HubSpot files, HubSpot forms and meetings, Walnut, and Storylane.  For the purpose of this campaign we can use the SlateCX website as our first source.&#x20;

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FSDNkhqOBBR86EKbdLKqG%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=e825b388-7421-4b49-b672-c6570b93f9ba" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The SlateCX website is: <https://slatecx.com>

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2Fwd9381Sk13amcFlRkV5Q%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=b4f00ac6-74f9-4b91-9708-d7f706088793" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Once you enter the URL click on 'Discover', this will crawl the site and look at the pages that it contains.

Select the 2026 b2b genai report Page

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FBusGFnNNJ6Xq2jtCehrU%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=b9eb5e9d-f50d-480c-bfea-65e451e35eac" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You will notice that when you click import the icon moves to 'Queued', this is the crawler getting ready to add a copy of the source into the library.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FuetWaT0kUYF0qtctAS24%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=4c2647b5-5790-4b8c-99fd-5f87b9f01645" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

It will then move to importing. You can add as many sources as you like. But for the purposes of this campaign make sure you add the b2b genai report.

For more detailed information see [Add sources](/guides/add-sources.md).

Once your source is added you will notice that the filters reflect the new file. Here we can see that there is 1 document listed under 'Websites & Web Pages'.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FXY6LQ91UVO9RzX4uZBjh%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=8fc980ee-b088-406d-97a3-5ad776fa8672" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## 2. Create cards

Now that we have a source we can create a card from it.

A card can represent an entire source (for example you could have a PDF card).  Or it can represent just a small portion of a source (for example you could have a chart extracted from the webpage to illustrate a specific point).&#x20;

One source can have many cards.

To create a new card, select the source and click on Manage Cards.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2F4ThQGwtOgu7uQz4W34GX%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=c30fe4b4-a9b0-4721-99e5-c592acb1dba0" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Since the source is a webpage, we have a few options on how to create a card. For now lets use AI to automatically generate some card candiates for us.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2Fvdm1wA7XA5U2PpJp0Qwr%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=90e6ccd2-0e5f-47bc-8da2-ae343a191b84" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Simply click 'Generate'.

It will take a few seconds to generate the cards and because AI is used to determine the key topics your exact cards may be different.

In our example, 15 cards were generated.

Clicking on one of the cards will bring up the card editor.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FHnW5DjjATghVA5uMJVbS%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=f69d250e-cb9a-4778-94a7-a139251ad401" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

They key parts of the card editor are numbered above.

1. Shows you a preview of the card (i.e. what will display in the actual slate)
2. We are currently on the 'Card' tab, here we can modify the card name and description and also see stats on where the card is currently being used.
3. If we want to modify the actual part of the web page that is used in the card display we can do so in the 'Display' tab.
4. Finally, if we would like to change to guidelines as to when this card is pushed (during a conversation) we can do that in the 'Behavior' tab.

Because this card was generated with AI, all the required values are already filled for us, but you can edit them if you would like.

To learn more about creating cards see [Create cards](/guides/create-cards.md).

## 3. Create the campaign

Now that we have a source uploaded and some cards created we can create our first campaign.

Campaigns is where you combine your library sources and cards with the conversational agent.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2Fnr3R7aUtLCnZI4fFxDJ7%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=256cd768-81e5-43cb-a37c-10d17d9230e3" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Click on the Campaigns menu and then click Create Campaign.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FgtyoztssSCwi8pkGI0NO%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=7ef33e56-27b7-45b2-bcaa-2641f841ada4" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Enter a name and a description for your campaign.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FIQ7giSWxcsq8PHKvjj3A%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=67c6db3a-6844-474f-8c4f-f232616a6e20" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

A campaign requires Sources, Agent Setup and at least one Entry & display point.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2F0gcbJb9paCNYC2OKf2HA%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=31ef3b4c-d624-477d-92a8-a76cb3049ccc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## 4. Select sources

In the **Sources** section, select the sources this campaign's agent may retrieve from. Selecting a source also derives the campaign's pushable cards from that source's active cards.

For this campaign lets select the source we just added.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2F6x3G6cjCZAAgKUIjl7qS%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=531031df-59f1-421f-aad8-aeb2ae4dfa69" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Campaigns always use the latest version of a selected source at runtime.

Make sure you click on 'Save Sources'.

## 5. Set up the agent

In the **Agent setup** section we will define how our agent is to behave:

**Identity** — Give your agent a name. I called mine 'Quickstart'.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FfMhpaOGl9i7Snskp9OJW%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=f1b0bdf5-edb2-4015-b0eb-6b4997a6c85b" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Response length** — Specify how verbose you would like your agent reponses to be. This is a soft word limit, 50 to 1000, default is 200 characters.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2F4e6x6TOuM9WflhJMkqQ9%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=5842ad39-3da2-465a-9708-3a46c6c44577" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Citations** — Select whether you want your agent to display its source citations during the conversation.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FTc8AVSSCGoeqST0hmery%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=01df3ea7-cc0d-42e8-af84-6259f819594e" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Prompt Pill Library** — Pills are the little button that appear inside the agent dialog, they are suggested prompts that a prospect can ask without having to type on the keyboard or use speech. Here I have added two pills: 'What does SlateCX do?' and 'Tell me about buyer preferences'.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2F06s9T7JEFAUSPefUKVDd%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=963ca2ff-9e15-4b63-b1e8-c6201f3529db" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

To add you own pills just type a value and click 'Add'.

**Nudges** — A nudge occurs when the prospect does not engage with the agent for a certain period of time. The agent will ask proactive questions to help move the conversation forward. Specify the number of seconds you would like to wait before the agents asks its own question to the prospect.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FS8P32waSF9hXCO0amS6X%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=e3788032-acbf-4d2c-bf03-3205a6e8c624" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Achievement: Goals** — Goals are the key objectives of your agent. Goal attainment is often a key metric to determine how your agent is performing. See [Goals and questions](/guides/goals-and-questions.md). Here I added one goal called 'Educated'. You can set a qualitative measure for goal achievement or you can specify a quantitative measure. Here is set it as a quantitative count of the number of cards pushed to the prospects slate. You can set a quantitative measure by clicking on 'Configure Achievement'.

In this case if 5 cards or more are pushed to the slate the prospect is considered educated and the goal is marked as achieved. Goals will appear in your dashboard.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FZPAlyy3QK7eDcGS9z1DV%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=adeab164-1f66-44fc-a91a-218c95bd2c98" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Proactive Information Gathering: Questions** — custom questions the agent tries to get answered during the conversation.  These can be created manually within the agent or can be linked to fields directly in HubSpot if you have connected your HubSpot acccount.&#x20;

In this case I created two fields manually. The first is 'Budget' and the second is 'Timeline'.

The agent will try and fill these fields as part of the conversation with the prospect.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FprsP0W45tD071WMllSmt%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=563eb249-3c9a-4c0a-b84e-f93cadd996bc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Once you have configured your agent, don't forget to save.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FsHvpKA1gIfIwb4sOxt0w%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=857bf173-b9ab-4cbb-83c0-18f341581550" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## 6. Create an entry point

The final step is to connect your agent to the outside world. This is done by creating an 'Entry Point'. Your agent will need at least one entry point - but you could have several depending on how you intend to use your agent.

Click on 'New Entry Point'

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2Frs8xotKUG1n30xii9Sv9%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=e5336706-5769-49e8-ad50-8310fd96dbe8" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You will be asked where your prospects will start. Let's use 'Website chat'.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2F8S6dwa1Gi5NQf9VEGutT%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=f85e847d-660b-450b-bf15-341e37122874" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Give the entry point a name and an initial greeting message.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FVuCHZG6HUjoNlzKIuIFb%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=80975a1f-2427-43b4-ad46-651346b9b634" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

There are lots of other configuration options, but we can leave all the default values and scroll to the bottom and click 'Create Entry Point'.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FZmXJv6wzdpaGSuJSubYn%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=ae2cef90-af70-4019-ba89-8c02164e28a8" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

See [Entry points](/guides/entry-points.md). Thats it. You have created your first SlateCX agent and we are ready to test it!

## 7. Test it

Let's test our agent. Click on 'Publish' and then click on 'Website chat setup'. This will create a preview of your agent.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2F65Zq7vAhfaEl6Y3zJaHh%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=5362bd9d-96d9-422c-aa8c-52397841a643" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

This will bring up a new tab, in the bottom right you will see your chat widget. You can click on that and start chatting to the agent. The rest of the screen shows you how to integrate the widget into your own site. The setup is very simple.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2Fvd2rfgwP6eIdPAQiPBee%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=699b228b-8ca9-4dc1-a186-ffbb8f7651ec" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Click on 'Open Chat' and type a message. Here I asked 'What does SlateCX do?' You can see the agent returns with a card as well as a citation about where it found the information. Feel free to ask more questions!

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FkMiw85SGPfIgvr7ugQyt%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=27e6559b-5e15-4bd3-aa19-3959b471b3ef" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## 9. Watch the results

Now what?

Why not try extending your Agent. Add another source. Add some more cards. Try experimenting with your own goals.

You can see how people are using your agent on the Dashboard. If you are the only person using the agent via the preview mode then make sure you 'Incude preview-created slates' or you wont see any slates in the listing.

<figure><img src="https://2844884401-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F5AhClAmEf81WtHS8kM9H%2Fuploads%2FbPvM1BSQH1aK30YRRfV3%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=117a00e0-d082-4840-b34b-ee6d79697a11" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
